Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Documentary

“One hundred years ago, African-British composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912) was not only one of the world’s major musical figures, he also exerted an important influence on the post-Reconstruction social politics of America as represented by such prominent African-Americans as W. E. B. Du Bois, Booker T. Washington, Paul Laurence Dunbar, numerous critics in black American newspapers, and composers and musicians from ragtime to classical.”

Careful viewers might spot UMF Prof. Michael Johnson as one of the speakers in the clip (about 5 minutes or so in).
